How to get the best travel insurance quote

The key to the best travel insurance quote is to know what you need. Travel insurance is an essential for every type of traveler, whether you travel on the occasion or frequently, it is always something you should consider.

The worst thing you can do to yourself is to jump at the first quote you find. Looking at multiple quotes is easy, and made only easier in the last few years by the internet. It is recommended to get at least four quotes offline and two quotes in person before making any final decision. This may seem like a lot of work, but the extra time you spend now can save you a lot of money in the future. Also, while you are looking around, be a tough shopper. It is perfectly reasonable to ask for a lower price, or even bargain with the insurer.

An easy way to lower your quote price is to only pay for coverage you will need. If you hate sports, you probably do not need sports accident coverage. A careful eye while reviewing your policy could save you money when you get your final quote. While saving money is a great idea, it is not a good idea to cut terms that you could potentially need out of your policy. Be wise, not risky. Just because you have never lost your luggage before, does not mean you should not be covered for luggage loss in your policy.

If you travel more than once a year, you might consider annual travel insurance. One insurance policy lasting you all year round will easily pay for itself in just a couple of trips. Be smart with your money, it is always wise to plan ahead. There are three places that I would recommend to find annual travel insurance.

1. Your Bank- Many people over look this location, but some banks offer the best deals anywhere for annual travel insurance. Where most insurers add expenditures to verify the validity of your patronage, your bank already knows you, and will in most cases be more than happy to offer you a very cheap quote.

2. Your Credit Card Company- Surprisingly your credit card company can offer you some of the best bargains you can find anywhere. When booking your travel plans with your credit card they will cover you in case of most delays or cancellations. Another bonus to booking with your credit card company is that they will usually get you an emergency credit card if yours is lost, sometimes in just a few hours.

3. Your Insurance Company- Whether the insurance is for your house or your car, some insurance companies will offer customers annual travel insurance at a heavily reduced price. This is always something you should look into.

Finally, the most important part to getting the best quote is to know what you are buying. There will be plenty of fine print to any policy you find, in person or online. Whether the insurer tries to hide the fine print in the very back of the policy, or if it is hidden in the tiny text you have to agree to when purchasing online, you have to read it. This is a very tedious part to buying travel insurance, but it is absolutely worth it. A few moments of your time to scrutinize this writing lets you personally analyze exactly what you are buying.

How to compare travel insurance quotes

First:
Before you even start looking at travel insurance quotes you should take some time and save yourself some money. A few quick calls to your current insurance providers might inform you that you are already insured in some ways, so you would not need your travel insurance policy to insure you in these areas. For instance, some life insurance policies already provide coverage for medical emergencies while travelling abroad, so you would not need to pay for that in your travel insurance policy.

Next:
Now that you know what you are covered for, you essentially know what areas you are not covered in. You can then apply this information to help you get your quotes. A quick search of the internet pulls up hundreds of travel insurance companies that you can get a quick quote from. To get a good idea of the money you are going to spend, you should plan on getting about ten quotes off the internet. This may sound like a lot, but it honestly should take an hour or less of your time. If you have the time in the day it is never a bad idea to visit a vacation planning company to see what they can quote you for travel insurance.

Then:
Print off all ten (or more) of your quotes, and set them in front of you. You want to arrange them from least expensive to most expensive, and then examine what each has to offer. Usually the cheapest will not offer all the coverage you personally need, so keep looking. Highlight exactly what each policy offers, and then look at what you want your policy to have. Some will offer a lot more than you need, and others will not offer enough for you, throw these away. Look at the remainder; usually you will have about five. Now that you have narrowed your selections it comes down to the actual decision.

Finally:
In front of you sit your remaining choices. This is where I recommend you start comparing actual prices. However, this should absolutely not be your only determining factor. While price is going to be an important factor, you have to also realize that you want to be confident in your policy. Nothing is worse than paying money for travel insurance that does not even fulfill its main purpose, letting you worry less. You need to weigh the differing quotes and decide for yourself what you need. Your policy should be tailored specifically for you, but this is something only you can do. Take into consideration where you are going and what you plan on doing there. If you plan on visiting the tropics, you probably do not need ski insurance.

Wait!
When you finally make your choice, be absolutely certain before you pay for it. As a traveler, you will want to be content and confident in your choice. This is the company you trust with watching over you throughout your travels, so treat it as such.
